What does the role involve?
Ensuring all coaches and volunteers working with Under-18s have up-to-date DBS checks and the appropriate FA certifications (e.g., Safeguarding and First Aid).
Supporting a safe recruitment process for new coaches or volunteers, including obtaining references where needed.
Making sure players, parents, and coaches know who the Welfare Officer is and how they can be contacted.
Acting as a first point of contact if there are any concerns regarding a child’s welfare or the behaviour of officials. The CWO would be supported by the Sussex FA Welfare Team for any serious issues or guidance.
How much time does it take?
As a small club, this role typically requires no more than 1 hour a month, if that.
What training is needed?
There are three short online FA courses to complete (which the club will cover):
Safeguarding for Committee Members – approx. 1 hour
Safeguarding Children Course – approx. 1 hour
Welfare Officers Course – approx. 2 hours
Plus a DBS check
